Research Assistant position at the Faculty of Psychology, University of Warsaw
The Faculty of Psychology, University of Warsaw is accepting applications for a full-time Research Assistant at the Cognitive Psychology Unit (Psycholinguistics Lab) for a period of maximum three years.
The position is part of a project funded under the Beethoven programme for Polish-German collaboration. The title of the project is “Early semantic development: Linking language development to emerging participation in social events. (EASE)” The main goal of this project is to contribute to the theory of early language development within the emerging embodied, distributed and situated approach to cognition. The main objectives of the project are to further develop the theoretical framework for show the exact timing and place of language within multimodal early interactions; to address the problem of reference in language acquisition and address the issue of language becoming progressively independent of specific physical situations. The methods employed base both on qualitative microanalysis of interaction videos and quantitative analyses of coded data.
The candidate responsibilities will include: recruiting participants and conducting experiments involving parent-child dyads; coding, annotation and qualitative analyses of data, quantitative data analysis and/or modeling, co-organization of research meetings and conferences, occasional supervision of undergraduate intern students (in second and third year), coauthoring papers and conference presentations. Most of the tasks will require fluent English.
The candidates must fulfil the following requirements:
a) have a Master’s degree (or equivalent) and a first degree in psychology or cognitive science.
b) have intention to pursue a PhD degree within the project
c) have a documented research experience in developmental psychology or cognitive psychology, which includes conducting experimental research, data analysis with traditional statistical and dynamical methods (e.g. RQA), proficiency in English language and ability to work in a research team. Experience within a narrower filed of research on interaction, involving hand-coding of behaviour in interaction will be an asset.
